Drop off Day

Drop off day… it is always a mixture of emotions.

I mean, I never had babies but I am sure dropping them off at daycare for the first time feels similar…. (or????) Maybe this means I am a tad bit attached.

I wrestled them into my car in the rain. This one, went to Alex. I am not sure how she found me, but by what she chose I am sure enough to tell you, she is someone who brings extra life to the world. These colors, colors of forest, the lake, and the red of rock show her rich connection to the earth, to the dirt, to the zest of life and the sound of the wind.

“We don’t have that in Alaska,” she told me, using her hands to describe it, “the layers in the sky like you do here. The layers of color.”

I had poured paint the week before to describe this, unaware that in other states, this was not a thing. It was also drop off day for this piece, one that reminds me of all the seasonal and change beauty in this place, Michigan. A piece that, now, will always remind me how lucky we are to have the layers in the sky.

I hope it brings as much joy to Lauren as it did to me as I painted it, waiting for it to come forth itself. Every painting has a mind of its own, and every painting chooses its buyer.

I love this about my work, that all the hours and time I spend pouring it out, it is preparing itself for someone specific.

I cannot wait until you find yours.
