Abstract Class!!
FINALLY!!! An abstract class!!
DETAILS:
Who? I will be teaching it!
What? A beginners class for abstract painting.
There will be instruction, friends, supplies, snacks and wine!
We will be doing a lot of dabbling to familiarize you with acrylic + building texture, watercolor, pastel/chalk, charcoal/pen and pencil.
The hope: to create three pieces! One (using texture) on board, ready to hang. One framed 8x10 inch canvas, one paper piece that can be easily hung once you’re home.
PURPOSE: A class to discover your language as an abstract artist and some places to begin. If you’ve been yearning to explore emotion but don’t know how, come put some colors down! this will be the start to your process of practice, habit and discovering your style using some different mediums to get your hands dirty.
We will discuss the following questions:
What does it mean to begin?
How do I start speaking this way?
What is abstract art?
what does it mean to have my own language?
How can I journal using this practice?
How do I use these mediums in a way that works for me?
Where?:
17247 Woodlawn Ave, West Olive, MI 49460.
When?: July 10 + 17th, 2023 // 6:30-9 pm
This class is two evenings! Totaling 5 hours.
How?:
You will walk away with three abstract pieces, two will be ready to hang in your home.
I have a calling to bring people together over cultivating practices in creativity! It’s been beautiful to see relationships bloom this way and watch creativity build.
Five hours only scratches the surface, but I’m so excited to start to open up this space for you to begin to express yourself this way.
After this class, my encouragement would be for you to keep learning how to draw, paint real form, use color, journal and keep building your own habits and ways of using the materials until you can find ways to express yourself that are unique to you. Build your own language.
This can be for the purpose of selling artwork, or simply a hobby and habit of expression.
Sometimes our journals reflect back to us things we didn’t know were inside of us even though it came out of us.
Abstract art can be like that.
Notes:
BRING WITH YOU:
5-10 images of abstract art that inspires you on a unique level. They can just be screen shots of art you’re drawn to. You don’t need to know why you’re inspired by it. Just that you are, for some reason.
1-3 tools/items that can be used to create your own type of surface using texture! (I.e. a fork, a spoon, a stick, piece of fabric, pallet knife, a claw clip, anything really.)
Feel free to bring some of your own favorite art tools or mediums, you can use them.
An open heart. If you have time, spend a little of it journaling and writing down whatever comes to mind the week before. This will help loosen up your insides creating space and acknowledgement to express it. If you have no idea how to do that, that’s okay too. We will practice some of it the night of class.
